Next Generation Leaders

We are in a time of deep questioning and change, a time of opportunity and possibility for a new way of being with each other and the earth. The questions we speak of are global in nature. We have surpassed seven billion people, we are experiencing the direct impacts of climate uncertainty, societal transformation and escalating globalization, and technology has transformed the way we operate, communicate and connect. We are becoming ever more aware of our unhealthy dependence on petroleum and other finite resources, and increasingly aware of innovative possibilities never before thought possible. Our vision is to cultivate and build the capacity of these emerging leaders to address these challenges we face to set a new course for our collective futures.

It is time for a new set of behaviors, a new way of being,
a new way of leading.

A New Way of Leading

In many corners around the world, the opportunity for leading in new ways is emerging. Social entrepreneurs, businesses, government and civil society organizations are showing glimpses of how to work together in new ways on core systems. Leaders enabling these “emerging new realities” are characterized by a profound sense of purpose. They are masters in balancing the personal, intellectual, emotional and social aspects of leading, capable of standing “at the edge of the system” and visualizing the limits and possibilities that emerge. Central to developing the skills this new way of leading requires is a dual journey of transformation. Authentic leaders engage both the “inner” (reflective) and “outer” (manifest structures) work of deep change, with a lifelong commitment – personally, within an organization, and within networks of collaborating organizations in critical systems.

 The Academy for Systems Change

The Academy for Systems Change formed to advance capacity for profound, awareness based, systemic change worldwide in critical systems such as Education, Food/Agriculture, Marine Ecosystems, Business and Community Development. The Academy is a global community of senior practitioners and faculty, including Peter Senge, Darcy Winslow, Roger Saillant, Charles Holmes, Robert Hanig, John Milton, Claudia Madrazo, Joseph McIntyre, and Hal Hamilton. The Academy partners with organizations and networks deeply involved in developing living examples that illustrate what is possible in creating social systems that foster biological, social, and economic well being.

During 2014-2015 the Academy and its partners will prototype a developmental platform for a select group of Next Generation Leaders. We aim to create a global exemplar practitioners are using methods and tools for systems thinking and collective co-creating to: convene, design and facilitate complex multi-stakeholder processes. Ultimately our goal is to share this work and know-how to support emerging leaders of systemic change worldwide.
