Erik Esselstyn grew up on a working farm in the Hudson Valley of New York. Erik believes those larval years in agriculture instilled his lifelong commitment to conservation. Land conservation successes in North Carolina, Maine, and New York stand among his proudest memories. Erik served as Dean of Students in North Carolina’s largest community college in the 1970s, as a pioneer in the bio-feedback movement working with cancer patients in the 1980s, and in the 1990s led an environmental non-profit promoting Energy Star building standards. In 2001 Erik built an Energy Star home as a founding member of the Cobb Hill Cohousing community in Hartland Four Corners, Vermont.
