Sheryl Ries is currently serving as Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Vancity. Vancity is a values based financial cooperative, serving more than 525,000 members-owners.  With over $26 billion in assets under administration, Vancity is Canada’s largest community credit union, using its assets to improve the financial well-being of its members while at the same time helping to develop healthy communities that are socially, economically and environmentally sustainable.

Prior to holding this role, Sheryl has served as Chief Operating Officer for Reconciliation Canada (on secondment from Vancity) and other leadership roles including Branch Manager and Director of Change Leadership for Vancity’s Core Banking Applications Renewal Program.

Over the past twenty years, Sheryl has gained a deep appreciation for the role that banking plays in contributing to the real economy and the social cohesion of healthy communities.  This perspective along with her varied background in banking, community engagement, change management, technology and the not-for-profit space has provided her with a sense of optimism; that passionate and committed people holding a shared vision, and motivated to action can create a positive and sustainable change in our communities.

Sheryl holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of British Columbia and lives in Burnaby, British Columbia with her husband and son.
